Big changes are on the horizon for new homes in Victoria. Updated energy efficiency standards will commence in Victoria from 1 May 2024. This means that all new homes will be required to increase the minimum efficiency performance requirement for the building shell from 6 to 7-stars out of a possible 10 through the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).
Builders will be required to make significant adjustments to designs and inclusions, potentially incurring costs of tens of thousands of dollars. Some of the changes will include changing to smaller windows in selected rooms, increased insulation and double-glazed windows with low-E glass coating.
