Check out our tips for a winter-worthy sun court:
Fancy a firepit?
The perfect winter accessory for your sun court, firepits can transform even the coldest wintery night into a toasty delight! And there are many different firepit styles and sizes for you to choose from, to suit your sun court’s aesthetic and space.
Whether your enjoying company with friends or family, a firepit night is the perfect way to relish winter evenings outdoors. Who’s bringing the marshmallows?!
Safety tip: If your sun court is decked, be sure to either place a non-flammable base plate underneath your fire pit (made from tile or steel) to protect your deck and avoid fires.
Find the right furniture
Even during the warmer seasons, Melbourne is notorious for experiencing ‘four seasons in one day’. That means it’s wise to style your sun court with furnishings that will be resistant to extreme weather conditions. Furniture that will rust, swell, corrode or saturate aren’t practical, and won’t last very long.
The best furniture materials to seek are hardwood timbers, aluminium and synthetic wicker.
Consider how you’re likely to utilise your sun court space to help you select the style of the furniture you’re after. Would you like a table and chair setting to devour delicious wintery meals? Or an outdoor lounge set to surround a firepit and evoke a more relaxed vibe?
Time to get cosy
In order to snuggle up comfortably on your weather-resistant furniture and roast your marshmallows on the fire pit, you’ll need a selection of cushions and blankets to keep the whole family warm.
While you can get waterproof covers for your cushions, the plastic-like material can take away from the comfort factor. We recommend having a waterproof blanket box outside, to store all your blankets and cushions and keep them dry all winter long.
