Hebel: The Building Block For Your Dream Home

While bricks have long been a feature of construction, in recent years Hebel has become a popular building alternative. Developed in Sweden in the 1920s and used widely in Europe ever since, the uptake of Hebel has been a relatively recent phenomenon in Australia but the benefits of a build with Hebel make it an increasingly sought-after material.

Hebel is an autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) a type of concrete cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave (a kind of hi-tech kiln) and is made from natural materials including quartz sand, calcined gypsum, lime, cement, water and aluminium powder. What makes Hebel such a desirable building material is its aeration, which provides a number of benefits for homeowners.

Better to build with

Aeration means Hebel is a lightweight building product, especially compared to bricks. CSR Hebel confirms that one standard Hebel panel is the equivalent of 75 traditional bricks, which means a Hebel home can go up much more quickly than a brick build, when installed by experienced Hebel installers.

Hebel can also be cut to size which reduces the need for onsite trimming that bricks require and the pieces fit together reducing the need for finishing materials like mortar. All these efficiencies mean less time onsite and that clients can move into their dream home more quickly.

More Sustainable

Because of Hebel’s lightweight properties it can be transported and produced more efficiently than brick and has a much smaller environmental impact than brick and other types of building materials, making it a cleaner and greener technology, something we look for whenever we consider building products. It’s also an incredibly energy efficient building material keeping homes cool in summer and warm in winter.

Durable

Despite the lightweight nature of Hebel, it’s incredibly strong and sturdy. Each panel contains steel reinforcement with an anti-corrosive layer on the steel for extra durability.

Looks Amazing

Oh, and did we mention it looks fantastic? The versatility of Hebel means it can be rendered in a variety of forms and colours so whether you’re trying to achieve a classic look or something more modern, Hebel is a perfect choice.
